Bhīṣma and Droṇa’s Counsel of Conciliation to Duryodhana

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical reliability and martial excellence: Arjuna is defined not only by power but by satyasaṃdha—steadfast truth to vows. It also underscores discernment and trust in Kṛṣṇa’s judgment, implying that true assessment of strength includes character and resolve, not merely physical might.

A son addresses Kṛṣṇa (Acyuta), pointing to Arjuna’s well-known qualities—truthfulness in resolve, fearsome prowess, and ambidextrous mastery—and emphasizes that Kṛṣṇa uniquely knows the full extent of Arjuna’s strength and his near-unassailability, within the tense pre-war deliberations of the Udyoga Parva.
