Kuntī’s Message to Kṛṣṇa
अर्चिष्मन्तं बलोपेतं महाभागं महारथम् | धृतिमन्तमनाधृष्यं जेतारमपराजितम्
arciṣmantaṃ balopetaṃ mahābhāgaṃ mahāratham | dhṛtimantam anādhṛṣyaṃ jetāram aparājitam
Der Sohn sprach: „(Er ist) strahlend, mit Kraft begabt, hochbegünstigt, ein Mahāratha, ein mächtiger Wagenkrieger; standhaft in dhṛti, unangreifbar — stets ein Bezwinger, niemals besiegt.“
पुत्र उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal: radiance and nobility joined with strength, steadfast resolve (dhṛti), and an unassailable character. Ethically, it praises disciplined power—victory grounded in firmness and honor rather than mere aggression.
In Udyoga Parva’s pre-war setting, the speaker (“the son”) offers a laudatory description of a warrior-hero, using a string of epithets to establish his stature as a great chariot-fighter—strong, resolute, and undefeated—thereby shaping how listeners should regard him in the unfolding conflict.
