Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 5 — Karmaphala-Nirdeśa and Phalāśruti (कर्मफलनिर्देशः फलश्रुतिश्च)
kārṣṇa vedam imaṁ vidvān śrāvayitvārtham aśnute | idaṁ bhāratam ākhyānaṁ yaḥ paṭhet susamāhitaḥ | sa gacchet paramāṁ siddhim iti me nāsti saṁśayaḥ ||
The verse presents a phalaśruti: teaching (making others hear) and reciting the Mahābhārata—regarded as Vyāsa’s ‘Kārṣṇa Veda’—yields spiritual fruit, culminating in the highest siddhi, understood here as mokṣa, especially when done with focused attention.
At the close of the epic (Svargārohaṇa context), Vaiśampāyana affirms the sanctity and salvific value of the Bhārata itself, declaring with certainty that its attentive recitation and transmission confer profound benefit and ultimate liberation.
