Indra and Dharma’s Consolation; Celestial Gaṅgā Purification
यत्र ते पुरुषव्याप्रा: शूरा विगतमन्यव: । पाण्डवा धार्तराष्ट्रश्न स्वानि स्थानानि भेजिरे
yatra te puruṣa-vyāprāḥ śūrā vigata-manyavaḥ | pāṇḍavā dhārtarāṣṭrāś ca svāni sthānāni bhejire || tat-paścāt devatābhiḥ parivṛto buddhimān kuru-rājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ maharṣi-mukhāt sva-stutiṃ śṛṇvan dharmeṇa saha taṃ deśaṃ jagāma yatra te puruṣa-siṃhāḥ śūra-vīrāḥ pāṇḍavāḥ dhṛtarāṣṭra-putrāś ca krodhaṃ tyaktvā ānanda-pūrvakaṃ sva-sva-sthāneṣu vasanti ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Dort hatten jene heldenhaften Männer—tatkräftig in ihren rechten Aufgaben und nun frei von Zorn—sowohl die Pāṇḍavas als auch die Söhne Dhṛtarāṣṭras, ihre jeweils bestimmten Stätten eingenommen. Danach ging der weise Kuru-König Yudhiṣṭhira, von den Göttern umringt und sein eigenes Lob aus dem Mund der großen ṛṣis vernehmend, zusammen mit Dharma in jene Gegend, wo diese löwengleichen Helden—die tapferen Pāṇḍavas und die Söhne Dhṛtarāṣṭras—den Grimm abgelegt hatten und freudig, ein jeder an seinem Ort, verweilten.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes krodha-tyāga—renouncing anger and resentment—as a condition for true peace and rightful placement. Even former enemies (Pāṇḍavas and Dhārtarāṣṭras) are shown dwelling joyfully in their allotted stations once wrath is abandoned, underscoring a dharmic ideal of reconciliation beyond conflict.
Vaiśampāyana describes a heavenly scene: the Pāṇḍavas and the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra have already taken their respective places, free from anger. Then Yudhiṣṭhira, accompanied by Dharma and surrounded by gods, hears praise from great seers and proceeds to the region where these heroes dwell contentedly.
