Atithi-satkāra and the Consolation of Wise Counsel (अतिथिसत्कारः प्रज्ञानवचनस्य च पराश्वासनम्)

इलोपहूतयोगेन हरे भागं क्रतुष्वहम्‌ । वर्णश्न मे हरि: श्रेष्ठस्तस्माद्धरिरहं स्मृत:,यज्ञमें 'इलोपहूता सह दिवा” आदि मन्त्रसे आवाहन करनेपर मैं अपना भाग हरण (स्वीकार) करता हूँ तथा मेरे शरीरका रंग भी हरित (श्याम) है, इसलिये मुझे “हरि” कहते हैं

ilopahūtayogena hare bhāgaṃ kratuṣv aham | varṇaś ca me hariḥ śreṣṭhas tasmād dharir ahaṃ smṛtaḥ ||

Indra erklärt, warum er «Hari» genannt wird: Wenn er in Opfern durch die Formel angerufen wird, die mit «ilopahūtā…» beginnt, nimmt er den ihm zugeteilten Anteil der Opfergabe an; und da auch die Farbe seines eigenen Leibes hari ist—dunkelgrünlich/schwärzlich—wird er daher unter dem Namen «Hari» in Erinnerung gehalten.
