Atithi-satkāra and the Consolation of Wise Counsel (अतिथिसत्कारः प्रज्ञानवचनस्य च पराश्वासनम्)
नारायण: स विश्वात्मा तेनास्य शितिकण्ठता । यह देख रुद्र तपस्यामें लगे हुए उन ऋषियोंपर टूट पड़े। तब विश्वात्मा नारायणने अपने हाथसे उन आक्रमणकारी रुद्रदेवका गला पकड़ लिया। इसीसे उनका कण्ठ नीला हो जानेके कारण वे “नीलकण्ठ' के नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुए
nārāyaṇaḥ sa viśvātmā tenāsya śitikaṇṭhatā |
«Nārāyaṇa, das allumfassende Selbst des Universums, packte Rudra an der Kehle, als Rudra heranstürmte, um die in Askese versunkenen Weisen anzugreifen. Weil sich seine Kehle durch diesen Griff dunkelblau färbte, wurde Rudra fortan unter dem Beinamen “Nīlakaṇṭha” (der Blaukehlige) bekannt.»
