आराध्य तपसा देवं हरिं नारायणं प्रभुम् । दिव्यं वर्षमहस््रं वै सर्वे ते ऋषिभि: सह
ārādhya tapasā devaṃ hariṃ nārāyaṇaṃ prabhum | divyaṃ varṣa-sahasraṃ vai sarve te ṛṣibhiḥ saha ||
Bhīṣma sprach: Nachdem jene Weisen durch Askese den Herrn Hari—Nārāyaṇa, den höchsten Gebieter—verehrt hatten, vollzogen sie zusammen mit anderen Sehern volle tausend göttliche Jahre lang Buße. Vom Eifer ihrer Hingabe und Selbstzucht erfreut, sandte der Herr ihnen die Göttin Sarasvatī; und auf Nārāyaṇas Geheiß, zum Heil aller Welten, trat sie damals in jene Weisen ein—damit heilige Einsicht und heilsame Rede zum Wohle der Wesen entstünden.
भीष्म उवाच
Sustained tapas and sincere devotion to Nārāyaṇa draw divine grace; that grace manifests as Sarasvatī—right knowledge and beneficent speech—directed toward lokahita (the welfare of all worlds), not merely personal attainment.
A group of ṛṣis perform a thousand divine years of austerity worshipping Hari-Nārāyaṇa. Pleased, the Lord sends Sarasvatī, who—by his command—enters the sages so that inspired wisdom and speech may arise for the benefit of all beings.
