Śvetadvīpa-varṇana and Śāstra-pravartana (Śānti Parva 322)

अलमन्यैरुपालब्धै: कीर्तितिश्न व्यतिक्रमै: | पेशलं चानुरूपं च कर्तव्यं हितमात्मन:,दूसरोंको उलाहना देने तथा लोगोंके अन्यान्य अपराधोंकी चर्चा करनेसे कोई प्रयोजन नहीं है। जो सुन्दर, अनुकूल और अपने लिये हितकर जान पड़े, वही कर्म करना चाहिये

alam anyaiḥ upālabdhaiḥ kīrtitiśna vyatikramaiḥ | peśalaṃ cānurūpaṃ ca kartavyaṃ hitam ātmanaḥ ||

Bhīṣma sprach: Es hat keinen Zweck, andere zu tadeln oder immer wieder ihre vielfältigen Verfehlungen aufzuzählen. Vielmehr soll man die Handlung tun, die anmutig und angemessen ist, der Lage entspricht und als heilsam für einen selbst erkannt wird.
