Śvetadvīpa-varṇana and Śāstra-pravartana (Śānti Parva 322)

बालो युवा वा वृद्धश्च यत्‌ करोति शुभाशुभम्‌ । तस्यां तस्यामवस्थायां भुड्धक्ते जन्मनि जन्मनि,कोई बालक हो, तरुण हो या बूढ़ा हो, वह जो भी शुभाशुभ कर्म करता है, जन्म- जन्मान्तरमें उसी अवस्थामें उस-उस कर्मका फल भोगता है

Transliteration

bālo yuvā vā vṛddhaś ca yat karoti śubhāśubham | tasyāṃ tasyām avasthāyāṃ bhuṅkte janmani janmani ||

Translation

Bhishma sprach: Ob Kind, Jüngling oder Greis—welche gute oder böse Tat einer auch begeht, deren Ergebnis erfährt er immer wieder über die Geburten hinweg, und besonders in derselben Lebensstufe, in der die Tat vollbracht wurde.
