Daṇḍa, Ahiṃsā, and Proportional Kingship: The Dyumatsena–Satyavān Dialogue (दण्ड-अहिंसा-विवेकः)

धर्मो भवति स क्षिप्रं प्रलापस्त्वेव साधुषु । अथैतानाहुरुन्मत्तानपि चावहसन्त्युत,उन दिनों लोगोंद्वारा प्रायः सकामभावसे ही धर्मका आचरण होता देखा जाता है। श्रेष्ठ पुरुषोंमें जो यथार्थ धर्म होता है, वह शीघ्र ही मूढ़ मनुष्योंकी दृष्टिमें प्रलापमात्र सिद्ध होता है। वे मूढ उन धर्मात्मा पुरुषोंको पागल कहते और उनकी हँसी उड़ाते हैं

dharmo bhavati sa kṣipraṃ pralāpastv eva sādhuṣu | athaitān āhur unmattān api cāvahasanti uta ||

Yudhiṣṭhira sprach: „Was man ‘Dharma’ nennt, wird selbst unter den wahrhaft Guten rasch zu bloßem Gerede herabgesetzt. In solchen Zeiten sieht man die Menschen Dharma meist aus eigennützigen Beweggründen üben; und wenn echte Rechtschaffenheit in edlen Personen erscheint, halten die Verblendeten sie für sinnloses Geschwätz. Ja, sie nennen jene Gerechten sogar verrückt und verspotten sie.“
