O Herr aller lebenden Wesen! Ich werde das Leben schuldloser Wesen nicht nehmen—weder von Kindern noch von Greisen noch von denen in der Blüte ihrer Kraft. Ich verneige mich vor dir; sei mir gnädig.
नारद उवाच
The verse upholds ethical restraint and compassion: the taking of life is especially forbidden with respect to the innocent and vulnerable (children, elders, and blameless persons). It frames this restraint as aligned with reverence toward the supreme Lord of all beings.
Nārada speaks a vow-like statement addressed to the Lord of living beings, declaring that she/one will not take the lives of innocent creatures—specifically naming children, the aged, and those in their prime—and then offers salutations while seeking divine favor.
