Educational Q&A

Experience (pleasure or pain) arises according to the predominance of sattva, rajas, or tamas; these guṇas ‘come near’ and yield their fitting results without delay, emphasizing moral causality and inner disposition.

Bhīṣma explains to the listener that once a certain state is reached (contextually linked with visions like dream/hellish experiences), the guṇas become operative and produce corresponding सुख-दुःख (happiness-suffering) outcomes in line with one’s condition.
