“वृक्षेके नीचे भी जिसकी पत्नी साथ हो, उसके लिये वही घर है और बहुत बड़ी अट्टालिका भी यदि स्त्रीसे रहित है तो वह निश्चय ही दुर्गग गहन वनके समान है ।।
dharma-artha-kāma-kāleṣu bhāryā puṁsaḥ sahāyinī | videśa-gamane cāsya saiva viśvāsa-kārikā ||
Bhishma sprach: „Selbst an einem niedrigen Ort am Fuß eines Baumes ist es für den Mann ein Zuhause, wenn die Gattin bei ihm ist. Doch selbst ein großes Haus, dem die Frau fehlt, gleicht gewiss einem düsteren, gefährlichen Wald. In den Angelegenheiten von Dharma, im Erwerb von Wohlstand und in der Erfüllung rechtmäßigen Begehrens ist die Ehefrau des Mannes vornehmste Helferin. Und selbst wenn er in fremde Länder reist, bleibt sie allein der sichere Grund des Vertrauens — die verlässliche Gefährtin.“
