अमात्यो मे भव प्राज्ञ पितेवेह प्रशाधि माम्‌ । न ते5स्ति भयमस्मत्तो जीवितेनात्मन: शपे,“विद्वन! तुम मेरे मन्‍्त्री हो जाओ और पिताकी भाँति मुझे कर्तव्यका उपदेश दो। मैं अपने जीवनकी शपथ खाकर कहता हूँ कि तुम्हें हमलोगोंकी ओरसे कोई भय नहीं है

amātyo me bhava prājña piteveha praśādhi mām | na te 'sti bhayam asmatto jīvitena ātmanaḥ śape ||

Bhishma sprach: „O Weiser, werde mein Minister, und leite und belehre mich hier wie ein Vater darüber, was zu tun ist. Ich schwöre bei meinem eigenen Leben: Du hast nichts von mir (oder von unserer Seite) zu fürchten.“
