पश्येदुपायान् विविधै: क्रियापथै- न चानुपायेन मतिं निवेशयेत् । श्रियं विशिष्टां विपुलं यशो धनं न दोषदर्शी पुरुष: समश्चुते,राजा नाना प्रकारकी कार्यपद्धतियोंद्वारा शत्रु-विजयके बहुत-से उपाय दढूँढ़ निकाले। अयोग्य उपायसे काम लेनेका विचार न करे, जो निर्दोष व्यक्तियोंके भी दोष देखता है, वह मनुष्य विशिष्ट सम्पत्ति, महान् यश और प्रचुर धन नहीं पा सकता
paśyed upāyān vividhaiḥ kriyāpathair na cānupāyena matiṁ niveśayet | śriyaṁ viśiṣṭāṁ vipulaṁ yaśo dhanaṁ na doṣadarśī puruṣaḥ samaśnute ||
Bhishma sprach: „Ein König suche die Mittel zum Erfolg auf vielerlei Wegen praktischen Handelns und richte seinen Sinn nicht auf unziemliche Mittel. Wer fehlerklaubt—wer selbst am Schuldlosen Mängel sieht—erlangt weder ausgezeichneten Wohlstand noch großen Ruhm noch Reichtum.“
