Śalya Installed as Commander; Coalition Agreement and Battle Arrays (शल्यसेनापत्यारोहणं व्यूहवर्णनं च)

Educational Q&A

In a battlefield context, persistent disruption by a key opponent demands decisive response; counsel is presented as ‘truth’ and reinforced through a well-known mythic precedent (Indra’s slaying of Śambara) to strengthen resolve and justify urgent action.

Sanjaya addresses Duryodhana, describing how Śalya fights daily and unsettles the Kaurava forces, and urges Duryodhana to have Śalya slain in battle, comparing the desired outcome to Indra’s victory over the demon Śambara.
