Educational Q&A

Steadfast adherence to one’s rightful duty (here, kṣatriya-dharma) removes the basis for lamentation: when action is aligned with dharma and carried through under right understanding, the resulting fate—however harsh—need not be met with self-pity or moral regret.

Sañjaya voices a stance of non-lamentation about his condition or end, grounding it in having remained unwavering in properly performed kṣatriya conduct and in having accepted Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s extraordinary influence and guidance; thus he declares himself not an object of grief.
