वार्तिकांश्षाब्रवीद् राजा पुत्रस्ते सत्यविक्रम:
sañjaya uvāca |
vārtikāṁś cābravīd rājā putras te satyavikramaḥ |
pṛṣṭhato 'nugamiṣyāmi sārthahīno yathādhvagaḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: Da sagte der König — dein Sohn, standhaft in wahrer Tapferkeit — diese Worte: „Ich werde ihnen nachfolgen, wie ein Wanderer, der zurückbleibt, nachdem er seine Karawane verloren hat.“ Im Zusammenhang deutet Duryodhana seinen nahen Tod als einsame Reise nach dem Fall seiner Gefährten und lässt eine düstere moralische Abrechnung anklingen nach einem Krieg, den er durch adharma beendet sieht.
