Śalya’s Consecration as Senāpati and Kṛṣṇa’s Counsel to Yudhiṣṭhira (शल्यस्य सेनापत्यभिषेकः)
गुरुपुत्रो5द्य सर्वेषामस्माकं परमा गति: । भवांस्तस्मान्नियोगात्ते को<स्तु सेनापतिर्मम,“ब्रह्मन्! तुम हमारे गुरुपुत्र हो और इस समय तुम्हीं हमारे सबसे बड़े सहारे हो। अतः मैं तुम्हारी आज्ञासे सेनापतिका निर्वाचन करना चाहता हूँ। बताओ, अब कौन मेरा सेनापति हो, जिसे आगे रखकर हम सब लोग एक साथ हो युद्धमें पाण्डवोंपर विजय प्राप्त करें?”
sañjaya uvāca | guruputro 'dya sarveṣām asmākaṁ paramā gatiḥ | bhavāṁs tasmān niyogāt te ko 'stu senāpatir mama ||
Sañjaya sprach: „O Sohn unseres Lehrers, heute bist du für uns alle die höchste Zuflucht. Darum will ich unter deiner Weisung einen Oberbefehlshaber einsetzen. Sage mir: Wer soll nun mein Feldherr sein, an die Spitze gestellt, damit wir alle vereint in die Schlacht ziehen und über die Pāṇḍavas siegen?“
