Educational Q&A

The verse distinguishes between intense austerity (tapas) and the specific moral/ritual qualifications believed to grant entitlement to particular heavenly realms (lokāḥ). Spiritual effort is praised, yet Nārada cautions that results are not automatic without the requisite dharmic conditions.

A woman is seen wishing to abandon her body. Nārada addresses her, acknowledging her extraordinary austerities but stating that she has not ‘conquered’ or secured the worlds (i.e., the meritorious realms) that she seeks, setting up a discussion about why her desired posthumous destination is not yet attainable.
