बदराणामपचनं चकार विबुधाधिप: । मानद! वह तीर्थ तीनों लोकोंमें इन्द्रतीर्थक नामसे विख्यात है। देवराज भगवान्‌ पाकशासनने उस कन्याके मनोभावकी परीक्षा लेनेके लिये उन बेरके फलोंको पकने नहीं दिया

badarāṇām apacanaṃ cakāra vibudhādhipaḥ | mānada! tat tīrthaṃ trilokeṣu indrātīrthakam nāma vikhyātam | devarājo bhagavān pākaśāsano 'sya kanyāyā manobhāvasya parīkṣārthaṃ tāni badaraphalāni pakvāni na cakāra |

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Der Herr der Götter bewirkte, dass die Jujubenfrüchte nicht reiften. O Spender der Ehre! Diese heilige Furt ist in den drei Welten unter dem Namen Indratīrthaka berühmt. Dort hielt der göttliche König Indra—Bezwinger des Pāka—jene Beeren vom Reifen zurück, um die innere Gesinnung und Aufrichtigkeit des Mädchens zu prüfen. Die Begebenheit lehrt, dass wahre Tugend nicht allein an äußeren Taten gemessen wird, sondern an der standhaften Absicht, wenn Hoffnungen sich verzögern.
