कार्त्तिकेयाभिषेकः — Consecration of Kārttikeya and the Enumeration of His Retinue
राजन! नृपश्रेष्ठ! विधिपूर्वक प्रणाम करके वे सब कार्तिकेयका प्रिय करनेकी इच्छासे यह वचन बोले-- ।। अस्य बालस्य भगवन्नाधिपत्यं यथेप्सितम् । अस्मत्प्रियार्थ देवेश सदृशं दातुमहसि,'देवेश्वरर भगवन्! आप हमलोगोंका प्रिय करनेके लिये इस बालकको यथायोग्य मनकी इच्छाके अनुरूप कोई आधिपत्य प्रदान कीजिये”
rājan nṛpaśreṣṭha vidhipūrvakaṃ praṇāmaṃ kṛtvā te sarve kārtikeyasya priyaṃ kartum icchayā idaṃ vacanam abruvan— asya bālasya bhagavan ādhipatyaṃ yathepsitam | asmatpriyārtha deveśa sadṛśaṃ dātum arhasi | deveśvara bhagavan asmākaṃ priyaṃ kartum asmai bālakāya yathāyogyaṃ manasa icchānurūpaṃ kim api ādhipatyaṃ pradātum arhasi |
Vaiśampāyana sprach: „O König, bester der Herrscher! Nachdem sie in gebührender Weise Ehrerbietung erwiesen hatten, sprachen sie alle diese Worte, in dem Wunsch, Kārtikeya zu erfreuen: ‚O erhabener, gesegneter Herr, gewähre diesem Kind eine Herrschaft, wie er sie begehrt. O Herr der Götter, um unseretwillen — um uns zu gefallen — geruhe diesem Knaben eine ihm angemessene Macht zu verleihen, gemäß dem Wunsch seines Herzens.‘“
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic pattern: requests to the divine are framed with humility (proper obeisance) and with an emphasis on what is fitting (sadṛśa, yathāyogya), suggesting that power or sovereignty should be granted in a manner appropriate to the recipient’s capacity and rightful desire.
After formally bowing, a group addresses Kārtikeya and petitions him to grant a child some form of dominion or authority, asking that it match the child’s wish and be suitable—presenting the request as both to please the deity and to fulfill their own affectionate intention toward the child.
