Vasiṣṭhāpavāha: Sarasvatī’s Diversion and Viśvāmitra’s Curse (वसिष्ठापवाहः)

ततो वै प्राश्निकाः प्राहुः पशोर्विप्रकृतस्त्वया । मांसैरभिजुहोतीदं तव राष्ट्र मुनिर्बक:,क्रोधेन महता5<विष्टो धर्मात्मा वै प्रतापवान्‌ | वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--राजन! ब्राह्मणत्वकी प्राप्ति करानेवाले उस तीर्थसे प्रस्थित होकर यदुनन्दन बलरामजी “अवाकीर्ण' तीर्थमें गये, जहाँ आश्रममें रहते हुए महातपस्वी धर्मात्मा एवं प्रतापी दलभपुत्र बकने महान्‌ क्रोधमें भरकर घोर तपस्याद्वारा अपने शरीरको सुखाते हुए विचित्रवीर्यकुमार राजा धृतराष्ट्रके राष्ट्रका होम कर दिया था तब उन प्राश्चिकोंने कहा--'आपने पशुके लिये याचना करनेवाले बक मुनिका तिरस्कार किया है; इसलिये वे मृत पशुओंके मांसोंद्वारा आपके इस राष्ट्रका विनाश करनेकी इच्छासे होम कर रहे हैं

tato vai prāśnikāḥ prāhuḥ paśor viprakṛtas tvayā | māṃsair abhijuhotīdaṃ tava rāṣṭra munir bakaḥ, krodhena mahatāviṣṭo dharmātmā vai pratāpavān |

Vaiśampāyana sprach: „Da erklärten die prāśnikas: ‚Du hast den Weisen Baka gekränkt, der um ein Tier gebeten hatte. Darum vollzieht jener dharmische und mächtige Asket—von heftigem Zorn ergriffen—nun Homa-Oblationen mit Fleisch, in der Absicht, dein Reich zu vernichten.‘“
