duryodhana nibodhedaṁ yat tvāṁ vakṣyāmi kaurava | śrutvā kuru mahārāja yadi te rocate 'nagha ||
Sañjaya sprach: „Duryodhana, o Kaurava, begreife dies — höre aufmerksam, was ich dir sagen werde.
The verse frames ethical counsel: listen carefully, understand clearly, and then choose action deliberately—only after reflection and inner assent. It emphasizes responsible kingship through attentive hearing and considered response.
Sanjaya addresses Duryodhana directly, introducing advice he is about to give. The line functions as a formal preface, urging Duryodhana to heed the forthcoming counsel and act on it if he finds it acceptable.
