त॑ ज्ञात्वा पतितं कूपे भ्रातरावेकतद्वितौ । वृकत्रासाच्च लोभाच्च समुत्सृज्य प्रजग्मतु:,अपने भाईको कुएँमें गिरा हुआ जानकर भी दोनों भाई एकत और द्वित भेड़ियेके भय और लोभसे उन्हें वहीं छोड़कर चल दिये
taṁ jñātvā patitaṁ kūpe bhrātarāv ekatadvitau | vṛkatrāsāc ca lobhāc ca samutsṛjya prajagmatuḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Obwohl sie wussten, dass ihr Bruder in einen Brunnen gefallen war, ließen die beiden Brüder Ekat und Dvit ihn dort zurück und gingen fort — aus Furcht vor Wölfen und aus Gier.
