त्रितस्ततो महाराज कूपस्थो मुनिसत्तम: । आर्तनादं ततश्नक्रे तौ तु शुश्रुवतुर्मुनी,महाराज! कुएँमें पहुँचनेपर मुनिश्रेष्ठ त्रितने बड़े जोरसे आर्तनाद किया, जिसे उन दोनों मुनियोंने सुना
tritastato mahārāja kūpastho munisattamaḥ | ārtanādaṃ tataś cakre tau tu śuśruvatur munī ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Da, o König, erhob der vortreffliche Weise Trita, als er den Brunnen erreicht hatte, einen lauten Schrei der Not. Diesen schmerzvollen Ruf hörten jene beiden Asketen.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights that seeking help in genuine distress is not a moral failing, and that the righteous—especially sages—are ethically obligated to heed suffering and respond with compassion.
Trita, having come to be in the well, cries out loudly in anguish; his cry is heard by two sages, setting up the next action—whether and how they will respond.
