Trita in the Well (Udapāna-kathā) — Balarāma’s Tīrtha Observances

बुभुक्षितस्य चान्नानि स्वादूनि भरतर्षभ । उपजहुर्नरास्तत्र वस्त्राण्याभरणानि च

bubhukṣitasya cānnāni svādūni bharatarṣabha | upajahur narās tatra vastrāṇy ābharaṇāni ca ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: „O Stier unter den Bharatas, den Hungrigen brachten sie köstliche Speisen; und dort überreichten die Menschen auch Gewänder und Schmuck.“ Das Bild hebt eine Kultur der Gastfreundschaft und des Dienstes hervor: Reisende wurden nach ihrem Bedarf versorgt — Speise gegen den Hunger und ehrerbietige Gaben —, ein Ausdruck dharmischer Freigebigkeit selbst inmitten der Spannungen der Kriegserzählung.
