गदायुद्धप्रतिज्ञा — The Vow and Terms of the Mace Duel

मां तु निर्जित्य संग्रामे पालयेमां वसुन्धराम्‌ । सूच्यग्रेणापि यद्‌ भूमेरपि भिद्येत भारत,मुझे संग्राममें जीतकर इस पृथ्वीका पालन करो। भारत! पहले तो तुम सूईकी नोकसे जितना छिद सके, भूमिका उतना-सा भाग भी मुझे नहीं दे रहे थे। प्रजानाथ! फिर आज यह सारी पृथ्वी कैसे दे रहे हो?

māṃ tu nirjitya saṅgrāme pālayemāṃ vasundharām | sūcyagreṇāpi yad bhūmer api bhidyeta bhārata ||

Yudhiṣṭhira sprach: „Besiege mich im Kampf, und dann herrsche über diese Erde. O Bhārata, einst wolltest du mir nicht einmal so viel Land gewähren, wie die Spitze einer Nadel zu durchbohren vermag; und doch bietest du mir heute, o Herr des Volkes, die ganze Erde an — wie kommt das?“
