Kṛpa’s Counsel to Duryodhana
महाधनुर्धर: श्रीमानमित्रगणमर्दन: । पुत्र: पज्चालराजस्य धृष्टद्युम्नो महायशा:,पांचालराजके पुत्र धृष्टद्युम्न महाधनुर्धर, महायशस्वी, तेजस्वी तथा शत्रुसमूहका संहार करनेमें समर्थ थे
mahādhanurdharaḥ śrīmān amitragaṇamardanaḥ | putraḥ pāñcālarājasya dhṛṣṭadyumno mahāyaśāḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: Dhṛṣṭadyumna, der ruhmreiche Sohn des Königs der Pāñcālas, war ein mächtiger Bogenschütze—glänzend und berühmt—vollauf fähig, die Reihen der Feinde zu zerschmettern.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the Kṣatriya ideal of martial competence joined with reputation and responsibility: a leader is measured by the capacity to protect one’s side and confront injustice, even amid the tragic costs of war.
Sañjaya is describing key warriors in the battlefield context, praising Dhrishtadyumna—Drupada’s son—as a famed, powerful archer capable of destroying enemy formations.
