Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the devastating cost of adharma-driven conflict: vast armies and famed warriors are reduced to a handful of survivors. It highlights impermanence and the moral weight of choices that lead to collective ruin.

Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that among Duryodhana’s once-enormous forces, only a few top-tier warriors remain alive—Aśvatthāmā, Kṛtavarmā, Kṛpa, and Duryodhana—indicating the near-total destruction of the Kaurava side.
