Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue: Duryodhana’s Entry into the Lake
उलूकश्च रणे भीम॑ विव्याध दशभि: शरै: । शकुनिश्च महाराज भीम॑ विदृध्वा त्रिभि: शरै:
ulūkaś ca raṇe bhīmaṁ vivyādha daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ | śakuniś ca mahārāja bhīmaṁ viddhvā tribhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: Mitten im Kampf durchbohrte Ulūka Bhīma mit zehn Pfeilen; und auch Śakuni, o großer König, traf Bhīma mit drei Pfeilen.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the degrading momentum of war: coordinated attacks and opportunistic strikes become common, reminding the listener that when adharma dominates, even great heroes are targeted by calculated, cumulative violence rather than restrained, principled combat.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Ulūka wounds Bhīma with ten arrows, and Śakuni also hits Bhīma with three arrows, indicating a focused attempt by Kaurava allies to injure and check Bhīma on the battlefield.
