Rudra’s Omitted Share in the Yajña (रुद्रभागानुपपत्तिः — यज्ञोपाख्यानम्)

so 'kalpyamāne bhāge tu kṛttivāsā makheḍamaraiḥ | tataḥ sādhanam anvicchan dhanur ādau sasarja ha ||

Educational Q&A

When disputes over rightful shares and order arise, the choice of 'sādhana' (means) becomes ethically decisive: turning first to weapons signals a slide from negotiation into coercion, highlighting the Mahābhārata’s recurring warning that ends pursued through violence reshape moral responsibility.

As an allotment or division is being arranged amid loud commotion, Kṛttivāsā looks for a way to accomplish his aim and begins by producing/readying a bow—an action that marks an escalation toward armed confrontation.
