Renewed Summons to the Dice-Game and Exile Wager
दुःशासनश्लापि समीक्ष्य कृष्णा- मवेक्षमाणां कृपणान् पतींस्तान् । आधूय वेगेन विसंज्ञकल्पा मुवाच दासीति हसन् सशब्दम्,द्रौपदीको अपने दीन पतियोंकी ओर देखती देख दुःशासन उसे बड़े वेगसे झकझोरकर जोर-जोरसे हँसते हुए 'दासी” कहकर पुकारने लगा। उस समय द्रौपदी मूर्च्छित-सी हो रही थी
vaiśampāyana uvāca | duḥśāsanaś cāpi samīkṣya kṛṣṇām avekṣamāṇāṁ kṛpaṇān patīṁs tān | ādhūya vegena visaṁjñakalpāṁ uvāca dāsīti hasan saśabdam ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Duḥśāsana wiederum, als er sah, wie Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) zu ihren elenden Gatten hinübersah, schüttelte er sie heftig; und während sie wie ohnmächtig war, lachte er laut und rief: „Sklavin!“
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how adharma manifests as public cruelty and dehumanization: Duḥśāsana’s loud taunt ‘dāsī’ and physical manhandling show the erosion of restraint and compassion in the sabhā, making the moral failure of the powerful unmistakable.
In the Kuru assembly, Draupadī looks toward her helpless husbands; Duḥśāsana notices this, violently shakes her, and mockingly calls her a ‘slave-girl’ while laughing aloud, as she is nearly fainting from shock and distress.
