Vidura’s Censure of Dicing and Warning to the Kurus
श्रुत्वा तस्य त्वरिता निर्विशड्का: प्राज्ञा दक्षास्तां तदा चक्कुराशु । सर्वद्रव्याण्युपजहुः सभायां सहस्रश: शिल्पिनश्वैव युक्ता:
śrutvā tasya tvaritā nirviśaṅkāḥ prājñā dakṣās tāṃ tadā cakrur āśu | sarvadravyāṇy upajahuḥ sabhāyāṃ sahasraśaḥ śilpinaś caiva yuktāḥ ||
Als sie seinen Befehl vernahmen, machten sich Tausende geschickter Handwerker—rasch in der Ausführung, klug und furchtlos—sofort ans Werk. Sie vollendeten jene Versammlungshalle in kurzer Zeit und ordneten darin, an den gebührenden Plätzen, allerlei erforderliche Gegenstände an.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Competence, coordination, and fearless execution can rapidly realize a leader’s directive; ethically, such efficiency is value-neutral and gains moral weight from the intention it serves—highlighting the responsibility of both rulers and those who implement their orders.
After receiving an order, thousands of capable craftsmen promptly begin work, quickly complete the assembly hall, and furnish it with all necessary items arranged appropriately.
