मागधगिरिव्रजप्रवेशः — Entry into Girivraja and Jarāsandha’s Protocol Inquiry
दृष्टवा पौरैस्तदा सम्यग् गदा चैव निवेदिता । गदावसानं तत् ख्यातं मथुराया: समीपत:
dṛṣṭvā pauraiḥ tadā samyag gadā caiva niveditā | gadāvasānaṃ tat khyātaṃ mathurāyāḥ samīpataḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Als die Bürger sie deutlich gesehen hatten, meldeten sie jene Keule dem Herrn Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Der Ort nahe Mathurā, wo die Keule zur Ruhe kam, wurde unter dem Namen Gadāvasāna bekannt — „das Ende (oder der Ruheplatz) der Keule“.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how public witness and truthful reporting preserve memory and create sacred geography: an event becomes ethically and culturally significant when it is clearly observed, responsibly communicated, and commemorated as a named place.
Citizens see the mace and inform Śrī Kṛṣṇa about it. The location near Mathurā where the mace came to rest becomes known thereafter as Gadāvasāna.
