Jarā’s Account and the Enthronement of Jarāsandha (जरासंधोत्पत्तिः अभिषेकश्च)
अथ दृष्टवा तथाभूते राजानं चेष्टसंततिम् तं च बाल॑ सुबलिनं चिन्तयामास राक्षसी
atha dṛṣṭvā tathābhūte rājānaṃ ceṣṭa-santatim | taṃ ca bālaṃ subalinaṃ cintayāmāsa rākṣasī ||
Als sie die beiden Königinnen in solcher Niedergeschlagenheit sah, den König, der nach Nachkommenschaft verlangte, und das Kind, das mit außergewöhnlicher Kraft begabt war, dachte die Rākṣasī: „Ich lebe im Reich dieses Königs. Er sehnt sich nach einem Sohn; darum ziemt es sich nicht, dass ich den jungen Sohn dieses rechtschaffenen und großherzigen Herrschers töte.“
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
Even one inclined to violence can be checked by dharma: recognizing the king’s righteousness and his longing for offspring, the rākṣasī judges that killing the child would be morally improper, emphasizing restraint and ethical discernment.
A rākṣasī observes the queens’ sorrow, the king’s desire for a son, and the exceptional strength of a young boy; she then reflects that, since she lives under this king’s rule and he is dharmic and noble, it would not be right to kill his child.
