Shloka 49

जिधघांसुरकेन्दुसमप्र भाव: कर्ण मयास्तो नयतां यमाय । जैसे अथर्वांगिरस मन्त्रोंद्वार आभिचारिक प्रयोग करके उत्पन्न की हुई कृत्या उग्र, प्रज्वलित और युद्धमें मृत्युके लिये भी असहा होती है, उसी प्रकार वह बाण भी था। किरीटधारी अर्जुन अत्यन्त प्रसन्न होकर उस बाणको लक्ष्य करके बोले--'मेरा यह बाण मुझे विजय दिलानेवाला हो। इसका प्रभाव चन्द्रमा और सूर्यके समान है। मेरा छोड़ा हुआ यह घातक अस्त्र कर्णको यमलोक पहुँचा दे” ।। तेनेषुवर्येण किरीटमाली प्रह्ष्रूपो विजयावहेन

sañjaya uvāca |

ji(d)haghāṃsur akendu-samapra-bhāvaḥ karṇaṃ mayāsto nayatāṃ yamāya |

yathā atharvāṅgirasa-mantrair dvārā ābhicārika-prayogena utpāditā kṛtyā ugrā prajvalitā ca yuddhe mṛtyave 'pi asahā bhavati tathā sa bāṇo 'pi āsīt |

kiriṭadhārī arjunaḥ atyanta-prasannaḥ san taṃ bāṇaṃ lakṣyaṃ kṛtvā uvāca— “mama ayaṃ bāṇaḥ māṃ vijayaṃ dātā bhavatu | asya prabhāvaḥ candrārka-sadṛśaḥ | mayā muktaṃ idaṃ ghātakam astraṃ karṇaṃ yama-lokaṃ prāpayatu” ||

teneṣuvaryeṇa kiriṭamālī prahṛṣṭa-rūpo vijayāvaheṇa ||

Sañjaya sprach: „Möge dieser Pfeil, den ich abgeschossen habe, dessen Glanz dem Mond und der Sonne gleicht, Karṇa in Yamas Reich tragen. Wie ein wilder, lodernder kṛtyā—durch einen zauberischen Ritus mittels Atharvan- und Aṅgiras-Mantren erweckt—im Kampf selbst für den, der dem Tod gegenübersteht, unerträglich wird, so war auch jener Pfeil.“ Da richtete Arjuna, der Diademträger, von Jubel erfüllt, sein Ziel und sprach: „Möge dieser Pfeil mir den Sieg verleihen. Seine Macht ist wie Mond und Sonne. Möge diese tödliche Waffe, die ich entsandt habe, Karṇa in Yamas Welt senden.“
