Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ideal of kṣatriya valor: steadfastness and exceptional prowess even when alone. Ethically, it also points to the ambivalence of war—heroic excellence becomes celebrated, yet it serves a destructive end within a larger dharma-conflict.

Sañjaya reports that Bhīṣma, fighting single-handedly, dominates the battlefield—repelling the Pāṇḍavas and the Sṛñjayas and earning fame as an unmatched warrior in that encounter.
