कर्णनिधनवृत्तान्तनिवेदनम् | Reporting Karṇa’s Fall to Yudhiṣṭhira
तत् ते न प्रत्यसूयामि न च सर्व विधीयते । प्रभवार्थाय भूतानां धर्मप्रवचनं कृतम्
tat te na pratyasūyāmi na ca sarva vidhīyate | prabhavārthāya bhūtānāṃ dharmapravacanaṃ kṛtam ||
Vāyu sprach: „Ich tadle euch nicht dafür, dass ihr jene Ansichten hegt. Doch ist es nicht so, dass jede Vorschrift von Dharma und Handeln allein in den Veden festgelegt wäre. Darum haben die großen, des Dharma kundigen ṛṣi vortrefflichen Dharma dargelegt und gelehrt — zum Wohl, zur Erhebung und zum höchsten Heil aller Lebewesen.“
वायुदेव उवाच
Vāyu affirms a plural and welfare-oriented grounding of dharma: while the Vedas are authoritative, not every practical rule is explicitly found there; hence sages formulate and teach dharma aimed at the flourishing and ultimate good of all beings.
Vāyudeva addresses another speaker’s competing viewpoints about dharma, refuses to blame them, and then clarifies that ethical guidance is also articulated by dharma-knowing seers to serve the common good, not only derived verbatim from Vedic injunctions.
