कर्णवधोत्तरं शल्य-दुर्योधनसंवादः

अप्याशिष्म वयमर्जुन त्वयि यियासवो बहु कल्याणमिष्टम् । तन्न: सर्व विफल राजपुत्र फलार्थिनां विफल इवातिपुष्प:,“राजकुमार अर्जुन! हमने बहुत-से मंगलमय अभीष्ट पदार्थ प्राप्त करनेकी इच्छा रखकर तुमपर आशा लगा रखी थी; परंतु फल चाहनेवाले मनुष्योंको अधिक फूलोंवाला फलहीन वृक्ष जैसे निराश कर देता है, उसी प्रकार तुमसे हमारी सारी आशा निष्फल हो गयी

apy āśiṣma vayam arjuna tvayi yiyāsavo bahu kalyāṇam iṣṭam |
tan naḥ sarvaṁ viphalam rājaputra phalārthināṁ viphalam ivātipuṣpaḥ ||
Sañjaya sprach: „O Prinz Arjuna! Wir hatten unsere Hoffnung auf dich gesetzt, im Verlangen nach vielen glückverheißenden und ersehnten Ergebnissen. Doch nun ist all unsere Hoffnung fruchtlos geworden—wie ein Baum, der überreich an Blüten ist und doch keine Frucht trägt und so jene enttäuscht, die Frucht suchen.“
