क्रोशतां चैव योधानां त्वरितानां परस्परम् । बभूव तुमुल: शब्दो दिवस्पृक् सुमहांस्तत:,प्रजानाथ! सजाये जाते हुए बड़े-बड़े गजराजों, आवरणयुक्त रथों, कवच धारण करते हुए मनुष्यों, कसे जाते हुए घोड़ों तथा उतावलीपूर्वक एक-दूसरेको पुकारते हुए योद्धाओंका महान् तुमुल-नाद आकाशमें बहुत ऊँचेतक गूँज रहा था
krośatāṃ caiva yodhānāṃ tvaritānāṃ parasparam | babhūva tumulaḥ śabdo divaspṛk sumahāṃs tataḥ prajānātha |
Sañjaya sprach: Als die Krieger, in hastiger Bewegung, einander zuriefen, erhob sich ein gewaltiges, tumultartiges Dröhnen—so mächtig, als schlüge es an den Himmel selbst, o Herr der Menschen. Das Schlachtfeld schwoll an von dringlichen Rufen, vom Zusammenziehen der Heere und vom Druck des nahenden Zusammenpralls und kündete von der moralischen Schwere und der unwiderruflichen Wucht des Krieges.
