Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 58: Yudhiṣṭhira’s dawn rites, royal gifts, and the reception of Kṛṣṇa
47 ०. ] ए १) 55 >शप अ 2022, एतॉल्लब्ध्वा वरानिष्टान् शिबि: काले दिव॑ गत: । स चेन्ममार सृज्जय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया
etāllabdhvā varāniṣṭān śibiḥ kāle divaṃ gataḥ | sa cen mamāra sṛñjaya caturbhadrataras tvayā ||
„Nachdem König Śibi diese ersehnten Gaben empfangen hatte, ging er, als seine Zeit gekommen war, in den Himmel ein. Und wenn jener Sṛñjaya tatsächlich gestorben ist, dann bist du (o König) vierfach glücklicher als er — denn dir wurde ein größerer Anteil an Heil und Verdienst gewährt.“
नारद उवाच
The verse underscores that righteous conduct and the boons earned through dharma culminate in heavenly attainment; it also frames ‘fortune’ as moral and spiritual auspiciousness rather than mere worldly survival.
Nārada cites the example of King Śibi, who after receiving desired boons later attained heaven; he then comments on Sṛñjaya’s death (if it has occurred) and contrasts degrees of blessedness, praising the listener as even more fortunate in terms of auspicious merit.
