Shloka 63

रुद्रमीशानवृषभं हरं शम्भुं कपर्दिनम्‌ | चेकितानं परां योनिं तिषछततो गच्छतश्ष ह,वे “रु अर्थात्‌ दुःखको दूर करनेके कारण रुद्र कहलाते हैं। ब्रह्मा आदि लोकपालोंमें सबसे श्रेष्ठ हैं। पापहारी, कल्याणकी प्राप्ति करानेवाले तथा जटाजूटधारी हैं। वे ही सबको चेतना प्रदान करते हैं और वे ही स्थावर-जंगम प्राणियोंके परम कारण हैं

rudram īśāna-vṛṣabhaṃ haraṃ śambhuṃ kapardinam | cekitānaṃ parāṃ yoniṃ tiṣṭhataḥ gacchataś ca ha ||

Vyāsa sprach: „(Ich preise) Rudra—Īśāna, den Herrn mit dem Stierbanner; Hara, Śambhu, den mit verfilzten Locken. Er weckt alles Bewusstsein und ist die höchste Ursache der Wesen, der beweglichen wie der unbeweglichen. Weil er das Leid vertreibt, heißt er ‘Rudra’; unter Brahmā und den Weltenhütern ist er der Erste—Sündenvertilger und Spender des Heilsamen.“
