Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kshatriya ethos in wartime: when faced with grave loss and immediate threat, a warrior responds with decisive force. Ethically, it reflects the Mahabharata43s tension between righteous duty in battle and the escalating ferocity that grief and rage can unleash.

Sanjaya narrates a moment of intense combat: a warrior (contextually Bhimasena in the accompanying Hindi gloss) roars and hurls a heavy, terrifying mace at an opponent, after the charioteer and horses have been killed and he has come down from the chariot-seat.
