उपायैः पूर्ववधकथनम् / Strategic Justifications for Prior Eliminations
सम्पतन्तो व्यदृश्यन्त भ्राजमाना इवाग्नय: । वहाँ चारों ओर गिरते हुए ऋष्टि, शक्ति, गदा, बाण, मूसल, प्रास और पट्टिश आदि अस्त्र आगके अंगारोंके समान प्रकाशित दिखायी देते थे
sampatanto vyadṛśyanta bhrājamānā ivāgnayaḥ |
Sañjaya sprach: Als die Waffen ringsum herabregneten, sah man sie aufflammen wie Feuer. Rṣṭi, śakti, Keulen, Pfeile, mūsala, prāsa-Speere und paṭṭiśa-Äxte und andere leuchteten beim Fallen wie glühende Kohlen.
संजय उवाच
The verse uses the simile of fire to show how battle magnifies human aggression into a consuming force: what appears brilliant and heroic can quickly become indiscriminate destruction, making ethical restraint (dharma) difficult yet crucial.
Sañjaya describes a fierce exchange in which many kinds of weapons are falling all around; their gleam makes them look like flames, emphasizing the intensity and danger of the combat.
