Droṇa’s Rebuke to Duryodhana after Jayadratha’s Fall

The verse highlights the ethical and practical demand of responsibility in leadership: Dhṛtarāṣṭra confronts the consequences of his side’s failures, implicitly questioning the competence and resolve of his warriors. It also underscores how pride in numbers or reputation collapses when discipline and coordinated action are absent.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks Sañjaya how Sātyaki could advance without being slain or even stopped by any ‘mahāratha’ on the Kaurava side. The question frames a moment of battlefield crisis: a key Pāṇḍava ally is breaking through, and the Kaurava defense appears ineffective.
