Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Saṃjaya Dialogue; Account of Sātyaki vs Alambusa

tasmād eva vrajāmy āśu yathā me sa gurur gataḥ | sātyakine kathā—brahman, āpaka kalyāṇa ho | ahaṁ dharmarājasya ājñayā dhanañjayasya mārgapar jā raha hūṁ | bhavān evaṁ karotu yena me vilambo na bhavet | śiṣyagaṇāḥ tu sadāsa eva ācāryasya mārgam eva anusaranta āyātāḥ | ataḥ yathā mama guruḥ gataḥ tathāham api śīghram eva vrajāmi || sañjaya uvāca etāvad uktvā śaineya ācāryaṁ parivarjayan …

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights disciplined adherence to rightful command (ājñā) and the traditional ethic that a disciple follows the course set by the guru. In a wartime setting, it frames obedience and loyalty as dharmic action, coupled with urgency and avoidance of delay.

Satyaki (Shaineya) declares that he will immediately proceed along the route taken by Arjuna, acting under Yudhishthira’s instruction. After stating that disciples customarily follow their teacher’s path and asking that nothing hinder him, he turns away from the teacher and departs.
