उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
जायन्ते विवृतास्याश्च व्याहरन्तो5शिवा गिर: । तीन सींग, चार नेत्र, पाँच पैर, दो मूत्रेन्द्रिय, दो मस्तक, दो पूँछ और अनेक दाँढ़ोंवाले अमंगलमय पशु जन्म लेते तथा मुँह फैलाकर अमंगलसूचक वाणी बोलते हैं ।। ३ इ ।। त्रिपदा: शिखिनस्ताक्ष्यश्चतुर्दष्टा विषाणिन:,गरुड़ पक्षीके मस्तकपर शिखा और सींग हैं। उनके तीन पैर तथा चार दाढ़ें दिखायी देती हैं। इसी प्रकार अन्य जीव भी देखे जाते हैं। वेदवादी ब्राह्मणोंकी स्त्रियाँ तुम्हारे नगरमें गरुड़ और मोर पैदा करती हैं
jāyante vivṛtāsyāś ca vyāharanto 'śivā giraḥ | trīṇi śṛṅgāṇi catvāri netrāṇi pañca pādāḥ dve mūtrendriye dve mastake dve pucchau ca bahu-daṃṣṭrāś ca amaṅgalāḥ paśavaḥ |
Vyāsa sprach: „Es werden unheilvolle Wesen geboren — Tiere mit weit aufgerissenem Maul, die unheilverkündende Laute ausstoßen. Manche erscheinen mit drei Hörnern, vier Augen, fünf Füßen, zwei Harnorganen, zwei Köpfen, zwei Schwänzen und vielen Fangzähnen. Solche Geburten und Stimmen gelten als düstere Zeichen, die moralische Unordnung in der Welt anzeigen und Unheil im Gefolge des Adharma voraussagen.“
