Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical weight of martial leadership: a commander’s resolve and symbols of authority can propel others into battle. It implicitly points to responsibility—those who lead in war ‘draw along’ many lives, so courage and judgment must be aligned with dharma.

Sañjaya describes Kṛpa moving forward in the battle array. Riding a richly appointed chariot with a bull-marked standard, he advances in a way that seems to pull the Magadhan vanguard with him, indicating coordinated movement and the rallying effect of a prominent warrior.
