Shloka 63

तेडभिवाद्य ततो भीष्म॑ कृत्वा च त्रि: प्रदक्षिणम्‌ । विधाय रक्षां भीष्मस्य सर्व एव समन्ततः

te 'bhivādya tato bhīṣmaṁ kṛtvā ca triḥ pradakṣiṇam | vidhāya rakṣāṁ bhīṣmasya sarva eva samantataḥ ||

Sañjaya sprach: Darauf erwiesen sie Bhīṣma die Ehre und umschritten ihn dreimal; sodann ordneten sie seinen Schutz nach allen Seiten hin an. So zogen sich die Krieger, nachdem sie den ehrwürdigen Großvater auf seinem Pfeilbett geehrt hatten, in ihre eigenen Lager zurück—obwohl sie innerlich von Unruhe erfüllt waren und in Gedanken bei ihm verweilten. Die Szene hebt einen Augenblick von Ehrfurcht und Pflicht mitten im Krieg hervor: Feinde wie Verbündete erkennen die moralische Autorität des Ältesten an und sichern seine Unversehrtheit, da er hilflos daliegt.
